CSI relaunches the Casework Mirror newsletter
The Constituent Service Institute is proud to announce the relaunch of the Casework Mirror, the newsletter for Congressional caseworkers formerly published as Casework Navigator by POPVOX Foundation.
Since its launch in 2023, the newsletter has published more than 60 issues and grown to more than 2,100 subscribers, with consistently strong open rates. It is one of the only publications written specifically for the staff who help constituents navigate federal agencies. Each issue rounds up the agency changes, program updates, and oversight findings that shape caseworkers' caseloads, along with news about casework itself. For many caseworkers, it is an essential source for seeing what's coming and how other offices are handling it.
The Casework Mirror now continues as part of CSI's work to champion caseworkers' expertise and recenter service in American political life. Read the introduction below, and check out the full newsletter and subscribe.
Hi caseworkers,
We’re back in action! Welcome to the rebranded Casework Mirror, in its new home at the Constituent Service Institute. I cannot contain myself, I’ve been so excited to share this with you.
In thinking about how to refresh this newsletter for its second chapter, I kept coming back to one of the kindest things I’ve heard someone say about our work and this newsletter in its Casework Navigator iteration: that it made them feel seen.
I know that feeling. I am perpetually surprised by how little casework is known, both inside and outside of Congress — despite its deep roots in the American political tradition, despite the significant number of staff who do this work, and despite its growing prominence in how Congress frames its own value to the American people. Getting to bear witness to the people who make constituents feel seen and valued everyday is part of why we do what we do. So, as ever, we hope that this newsletter is a place where we get to turn the mirror around and let you see how your work matters.
Continue to expect our usual roundups of agency news, focusing on places where you can prepare for changes in your caseload, share proactive information with constituents, better understand what’s happening at agencies, and keep up with casework gossip reporting.
In today’s issue…
OBBBA: We’re introducing a new section on navigating HR1 related policy changes — understanding that not all of you handle state programs, we’re still likely to see a lot of crossover/surge casework happen soon.
Spam and scams: wow it seems like every other article here today is about identity theft, scams, AI-powered scams, and fraud.
They did what? Read to the end for a wild USPS IG about falsified customer experience surveys.
Talk transition to us
We have so many exciting plans for CSI that I’m excited to share with you in the coming months and years. As always: if there is anything we can do to be helpful — a resource you’d like to see, a question about how other offices work, a vent about a wild case — please drop us a line. I’m at anne@constituentserviceinstitute.org.
It’s so good to be back. Onward!
